Can I allow a student to re-submit an assignment before the due date?

Learn how to reset students' submission status on an assignment if they submitted an assignment before it was complete.

Allowing students to re-submit an assignment is useful when they accidentally submit an assignment before completing it or when you want to provide them with another opportunity to demonstrate mastery.

To learn how to reset the submission status of an assignment for a particular student in your class, follow the steps below:

Note: This method is only possible if the student has not answered all the questions and the assignment time limit has not expired.

  1. Click the Reports tab.

    1. You can also go to the Classes tab, select View Class, and click the assignment from the Assignments list to go directly to its report.

  2. Select a Recent Assignment from the All Classes reports homepage

    1. You can also select a class from the All Classes drop-down menu, navigate to an Assignment report, and select the specific assignment using the Drilldown button.

  3. Navigate to a student and either click the submission status within the Status column or select the Actions drop-down menu.

  4. Click Reset Submission Status.

  5. Confirm by selecting Reset Status.

Note: For assignments with Secure Mode enabled, resetting a student's submission also clears their violation history. This gives them a completely fresh start to take the assignment again without previous violations counting against them.

If you'd like to remove the timer from the assignment, you can do so by editing the assignment settings. If the timer has elapsed or your student answered all questions, you can reassign the assignment to them instead.
