How do I add a co-teacher to my class?

Learn to add or remove an additional teacher to your class so they can invite students, create and edit assignments, and view student data.

Written by Lucy Orsi

Adding a co-teacher allows you and another teacher manage a classroom together.

All teachers and co-teachers can invite students, create assignments, edit assignments, open or close independent practice, and view student data for the classrooms.

Note: Only the teacher who originally created an assignment within a class can edit its default settings, including the assignment title. However, all teachers, regardless of who created the assignment, can adjust settings for specific students or the class as a whole. This is especially useful in co-taught or inclusion classrooms.

How do I add a co-teacher?

If you are an approved teacher at a licensed school, you’ll be able to add a co-teacher by following these steps:

  1. Log into your Albert account and click the Home tab at the top of your page.

  2. Select the Classes dropdown menu, and select a class.

  3. Click on the People tab under the Manage section.

  4. Click Teachers on the top toolbar.

  5. Click Add co-teacher.

  6. Input the email address of the co-teacher.

  7. Click Add.

Why can’t I add a co-teacher?

If you see a message that says "You do not have permission to add co-teachers to this classroom," you are either not approved at your school or your school doesn’t have a license. If you know that your school has a license, you can reach out to an admin to approve you. If your school does not have a license and you're interested, you can email hello@albert.io.

Alternatively, if you tried adding a co-teacher after inputting an email address and see the message display below, it means that the email address you entered is not associated with an approved account at your school. We recommend that you reach out to the co-teacher to double-check if the email address is associated with their Albert account, or to reach out to an admin to see if they can approve the co-teacher.

How do I remove a co-teacher?

If you remove a co-teacher, they will no longer be able to create assignments, view student data, and manage the classroom.

To remove a co-teacher, follow these steps:

  1. Log into your Albert account and select the All Classes dropdown menu, and select a class.

  2. Click on the People tab under the Manage section.

  3. Click Teachers on the top toolbar.

  4. Select Remove next to the teacher you'd like to remove as a co-teacher.

[Pro-tip]: If you're looking to transfer your Albert class to an approved Albert teacher or administrator, adding them as a co-teacher will give them continued access to the class when your account is no longer active.

Who can use co-teacher?

Co-teacher access requires a licensed Albert account. If you're accessing Albert through Adaptive Practice only (without a school license), you won't be able to add a co-teacher to your class. Similarly, unlicensed teachers cannot be added as co-teachers to a licensed classroom.
